Attention horror fans, we are currently experiencing a terrifying but exciting revival of the genre. Supernatural ghost stories, fake blood, gore and jump scares are welcome all year round and thankfully there are plenty of cool horror movies headed our way over the next few years. Whether it’s the return of popular franchises like Scream and The Exorcist or original scares from Jordan Peele and M. Night Shyamalan, there are a ton of upcoming horror movies in the making.

Friendship Game – November 11, 2022
Cobra Kai’s Peyton List leads the cast of The Friendship Game, a horror movie about a group of teenagers who discover a strange thing that takes their friendship in rapidly twisted and violent ways. Try it. The film will hit theaters and VOD at the same time this November.
Menu – November, 18, 2022

Play Dead – December 1, 2022
Coming in late 2022 is Play Dead, starring Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin’s Bailee Madison and Sliders’ Jerry O’Connell. The horror thriller will follow a criminology student who fakes his own death to enter a morgue and retrieve a piece of evidence that ties him to his brother’s crime. However, once she lands at the morgue, she finds a front of horrors at the hands of her coroner. The film is directed by Patrick Lussier, who previously directed My Bloody Valentine and Drive Angry.
M3GAN – January 6, 2023
James Vaughan is known for his contributions to modern horror hits within the Conjuring universe and most recently with Malenant. Early 2023, M3GAN uses an original story by the filmmaker and a screenplay by Akila Cooper. The sci-fi horror movie is about a roboticist named Gemma (played by Get Out’s Allison Williams), who creates a lifelike doll to become a child’s best companion and parent’s greatest ally. Is. When Gemma gains custody of her orphaned niece, she decides to activate her M3GAN prototype to horrific results. The film will hit theaters.
Yellow Blue Eye – January 6, 2023
To top off the year, a gothic horror project starring Christian Bale is on the way. Pale Blue Eye is an adaptation of a novel of the same name and follows a veteran detective named Augustus Lander (Bell) who investigates a series of murders by Edgar Allan Poe (played by Harry Melling). Also in the cast will be Gillian Anderson, Lucy Boynton, Toby Jones, Timothy Spall and Robert Duvall. The film is slated for a limited theatrical release on December 23 before hitting Netflix in January.
True Hunting – January 6, 2023
Also coming this January is True Haunting, which tells the story of an exorcism first televised on NBC in 1971. It’s about a couple Ed and Marsha Baker (played by Stranger Things actor Jamie Campbell Bower and The Boys starlight actress Erin Moriarty) who buy A house haunted by the family that lived and died there. Demeter’s last journey – January 27, 2023
Andre Øvredal, the man behind 2019’s Scary Tales to Tell in the Dark, is making another horror movie called Last Voyage of Demeter. The film is based on a chapter from Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula. It will be set on the Russian schooner Demeter and will detail the events of its crew.

Night Shyamalan’s next film is described as a home invasion horror movie set during the apocalypse and will star Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista, Manhunter’s Jonathan Groff and Harry Potter’s Rupert Grunt. Knock at the Cabin will be another original from the filmmaker behind The Sixth Sense and The Glass Trilogy.
Cocaine Bear – February 24, 2023
Elizabeth Banks’ follow-up as director after helming Pitch Perfect 2 and Charlie’s Angels is a film called Cocaine Bear, yes… Cocaine Bear. The title is actually pretty self-explanatory as it’s about a drug runner whose plane crashes with a bunch of cocaine and is eaten by a bear. The film, which hits theaters, stars Keri Russell, Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and the late Ray Liotta.
Scream 6 – March 10, 2023
The Scream franchise finally returns in a big way in early 2022 with New Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette in the cast along with several new faces. After Scream was well received and a huge box office draw, the films would continue with the same filmmaking team, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. It will pick up where the recent Scream movie left off and will follow the Carpenter sisters, played by Melissa Barrera and Gina Ortega, as they leave Woodsboro with Mason Gooding and Jasmine Savoy Brown. . Also in the cast are Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, Shohariya Aghdashlo and Bess Russo. The film will be directed by The Tomorrow War’s Chris McKay.
Evil Dead Rise – April 21, 2023
Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead franchise is set to live on with the upcoming Evil Dead Rises, written and directed by newcomer Lee Cronin. The film is ostensibly about two estranged sisters who are reunited, but are soon greeted by demons in the flesh, against whom they must survive. It will be the fifth Evil Dead film and will hit theaters in the spring of 2023.
Insidious 5 – 7 July 2023
A fifth Insidious film is on the way, with Patrick Wilson reprising his role as Scott Thames as well as directing the film himself, marking the first time he’s helmed a film. The 2020 horror film The Invisible Man is based on an original story by filmmaker Lee Whannell. The horror movies coming in the final months of 2022 and 2023 are a ridiculously interesting and scary bunch. It’s been a great year for horror and it’s only even more awesome to arrive with fresh evil doll scares in the form of a troll-themed disaster movie on the way for the holidays and M3gan coming in January. It’s also been a big year for the return of old-school horror franchises — with the return of Ghostface, Leatherface, and even Pinhead in 2022 — and the nostalgia keeps on coming. Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise revisits the Deadite-filled series next year.
And the even better news is that you don’t always have to go to the cinema to cure your fear. Streaming platforms are always hungry for more new horror and you can always watch the best horror movies to get your horror fix in between. It’s time to get some scary dates in the diary. They are obviously subject to change, but as of November 2022, this is the definitive planner for the most exciting upcoming horror movies of 2022 and 2023.

By now we all know what kind of dining experiences are featured on the menu. Michelin stars…moss and algae harvested from local forests…Instagram lighting…likely to be an elaborate setup of the whole thing to kill you. Well, maybe not last, this is where an ugly chef played by Ralph Fiennes comes in to mix things up a bit. Anya Taylor Joy and Nicholas Hoult are a couple looking for a next-level evening of dining but pick up a knife and fork for a very different kind of epicurean nightmare. The dark comedy of the above trailer is already quite delicious so we can’t wait to see how it plays out. Oh, and it’s from one of the directors of Succession and Game of Thrones so some unexpected twists and turns are sure to be on the menu.
The troll
Before now, if we wanted to see Norwegian troll horror, we always had to re-watch Andre Øvredal’s brilliant found footage Troll Hunter. Netflix is about to change all that with Troll. It comes from director Roar Uthaug, whose Tomb Raider wasn’t much to write home about, but he was also responsible for the excellent Norwegian disaster film The Wave. “Troll is an idea that’s been growing in the back of my mind for 20 years,” Uthaug told Variety. “I can’t wait to unleash this Norwegian monster on the world.” If The Wave proved anything, it’s that it’s a director who, like Roland Emmerich, isn’t afraid to destroy everything, so when a giant rock troll wakes up inside Dover Mountain, maybe after Things will never be happy. . … This might be a great excuse to watch Trollhunters in production again.

Spoiler it doesn’t go the way Gemma wants it to… its release date has actually been brought forward by a week following the stratospheric success of a social media campaign by Universal. If the movie is even half as fun as the trailer – that soundtrack! – This is going to be a tough way to kick off the horror movies of 2023.

Despite horror author Paul G. Tremblay’s most terrifying words over the years, we haven’t been lucky enough to catch any film adaptations of his books. So far, he is – and the director? None other than Mr. Twist, M. Night Shyamalan. Knock at the Cabin is based on the book The House at the End of the World and sees a family arrive on a retreat in the woods and are taken hostage by four strangers. Shyamalan adapted the book himself and has been vague but says his plot moves him along quickly. “This is the fastest script I’ve ever written. Morbius was originally scheduled for release on January 28th, but Sony announced that it would be pushed back by three months to April 1st. No official reason has been given, but the delay is suspected to be due to the latest COVID-19 outbreak.

Hellraiser
